Weigh In Wednesday 5/13/2009

So did you catch the Biggest Loser finale last night? I am so pumped, HELEN WON!!

I just thought it was the best motivation to see that the oldest person in the contest was rivaled by the next oldest and THE sickest for the off campus winner. The off campus winner, in case you missed it, was a SIXTY FOUR year old man who ended up losing 47% of his body weight (I can't remember how many pounds but it was A LOT).

Helen lost 54% of her body weight (140 pounds) and now is a tiny 117. Can you imagine being half the size you are? That's quite an accomplishment.

I don't have quite that much to lose, if I lost half my body weight I'd be sick. It is definately motivating though to see people like the ones that were up on that stage losing all that weight. And since Helen is 48, Ron is 50-something and JERRY (the off campus winner) is 64, I'm not sure any of us have an excuse anymore for not losing the weight and getting moving.

I noticed that most all of them said that getting started was the hardest part.

This week's Notes:

Food:
I'm pretty proud of myself this week. I had zero over indulgences this time and Mother's Day I made all kinds of desserts and cooked a feast for the company we had.

Water:
I did ok. I'm still forgetting to drink all the water I'm supposed to. I only had a couple of Diet Dr. Peppers this time though, so I'm doing better on cutting out that. I figured out that I just can't have them in the house at all, or I will be tempted to drink them...and then I replace them when I go back to the store. So no more buying them for me. Then I don't feel so guilty if I get one while we're out.

Exercise:
The exercise hasn't been happening because of all the rain. I'm going to town today and I think I'm going to scour the thrift stores for an exercise dvd. I might even be tempted to venture into Wal Mart for one if I can't find one at Goodwill or the DAV.

Successes:
My success this time has been the lack of snacking and the healthy and low cal food choices. I rocked the calorie count this time...so yay me!

Failures:

Lack of exercise. Maybe getting a DVD will help.

Weight Change:
One pound loss

Weigh In Wednesday 5/6

This weekend I don't think I even ate at all with all the stress and worry. I would have thought with all the extra lifting and extra work I've been doing and the less calories I would have lost something.

This week's Notes:

Food: I barely ate at all over the weekend and I've been eating sensibly before and since.

Water: I did ok. I'm still forgetting to drink all the water I'm supposed to.

Exercise:
I didn't walk on the weekend because of the rain, but I know that I made up for it with all the lifting of my son (who's as big as I am) and the rushing around that I did.

Successes:
I'm not sure what there is to celebrate this week. I didn't stress eat on Saturday or Sunday...I guess that's it.

Failures:
Behavior-wise I don't think I had any. The scale sure doesn't reflect that though.

Weight Change: No weight change.

How did you do this week? Let me know in the comments. And if you make a post on your own blog, link to it so we can encourage each other to keep it up! Mr Linky isn't working as I've written this, so I'll come back and edit it in when it is.

Weigh In Wednesday 4/27/09

Is anyone else watching The Biggest Loser? Those people are so inspirational. My favorite one was booted off last week, Kristen. That girl was almost four hundred pounds when she started and in 16 weeks she had lost 116 pounds and was RUNNING. RUNNING!! It makes me wonder what the heck I'm still doing on the couch. If those people can do it with all that extra weight on their backs, why can't I?

Last night they showed the five remaining contestants the physical/medical effects of all the dieting and exercise they'd been doing the last 17 weeks. In that time, Helen had lost 103 pounds and the doctor told her that she had taken TEN years off her life. At 48 she's the age when most women kind of "give in" to those extra pounds. It's really inspirational to see her kicking those extra pounds to the curb!

So the question is, what's keeping me from doing what they did? I have a whole lot less to lose than Kristin and I'm younger than Helen. Filipe had asthma, so that's no excuse either. I'm running out of excuses here. Maybe I could say time is the issue. That is actually an issue for me, but you know what? After watching last nights show and seeing how much just WEIGHT can effect your medical issues...and how possible it actually is to turn it around. I am thinking now that I don't have the time NOT to exercise. If I don't do something now then I'm going to be in Helen's shoes by the time I get to 48.

So I finally started exercising last week and I kicked it into high gear this morning after watching last nights show. So couple that with the diet I've been doing the past few weeks, and we'll see if that changes anything. I know it will, if it worked for them...ANYONE should be able to do it.

This week's Notes:

Food: I did excellent. No big calorie splurges. A few nutritional choices that I could have made better, but I can live with it.

Water: I did ok. There is still room for improvement though. I get busy in the garden or doing something in the house and forget to drink.

Exercise: At least I've gotten started. I should be improving each week in this area. I'm getting kind of tired of piddling around with this, it's time to make some real changes.

Successes: I think the turnaround in my attitude is the biggest success so far. Now to translate that into actual pounds.

Failures: Just a few nutritional choices that I could have made better.

Weight Change: No weight change.

Weigh In Wednesday 4/22/09

I had been blogging about trying to lose weight over on another blog for the last few weeks, but they have now lost their weight and discontinued their carnival. Well, I've decided that I need to really get serious about this weight loss, especially with my high school reunion coming up in two months!

I've been looking at a lot of pictures lately, putting together family photo albums and other photo projects and the entire process has made me feel just sick over my weight. While I never like the way I look, the pictures of me two years ago and earlier I can at least tolerate. In current pictures, I feel like I don't even look like the same person. I don't like how I look in pictures or the mirror. It's time to stop avoiding mirrors and making sure I'm the one taking the pictures. I need to lose the weight so I'm comfortable being INSIDE the pictures with my kids.

So I'm starting this week to make blog entries on my own. I may turn it into a carnival, if anyone is interested in participating, let me know in the comments, and I'll make it a carnival so you can link up your own weight loss posts.

Like they did at Happy to Be at Home, I'll discuss each week how I did in particular areas. For my list, I'll discuss food (choices, calorie consumption, etc.), water, exercise successes, failures and of course what the scale says. I'll also discuss how I feel about it. Maybe the accountability each week might help to keep me on course, like it does with my weekly plan. I hope that if you have a few pounds to lose, that you might join me too.

This week's Notes:

Food: One word, Circus. Another couple words, Birthday party...need I say more? I'll do better next week. On the regular day to day eating though, I did fine. I've been eating a big salad at dinner and then eating whatever we had for lunch the next day when there's more time to burn it.

Water: I need to drink more water next week.

Exercise: Not much. This week I'm going to try to get in a walk after Jason gets home from work.

Successes: The fact that it's even in my mind (on daily eating) is a success I think. Especially since I haven't had any success yet. When I weighed this morning I'm the same weight. It seems like I stay the same weight no matter how many salads I eat.

Failures: The circus. I scarfed alot of popcorn and that stuff isn't airpopped. The birthday party I had one small slice of cake and no ice cream...which is about right I think.

Weight Change: Exactly the same, no more or less.

How did you do this week? Let me know in the comments. And if you want a Mr. Linky to blog about weight loss with me, let me know that too.

Weigh In Wednesday #4

This is the fourth time I'm participating in Weigh In Wednesday with Kate and Joy from Happy To Be At Home.

Food:
Is anyone else watching the Biggest Loser this season? Last nights show where the black team goes crazy and eats thousands of calories...that was my week. I was sure I would gain this week. I didn't, but it's amazing because I ate like a HORSE!

Water:
I did ok with the water this week. I'm still struggling with the Dr. Pepper though.

Exercise:

I exercised ONE day. Which I guess is better than none, but still not good.

Successes:

I don't think I have any successes this week. I'm shocked that I'm even posting, but I guess accountability requires me to say I blew it.

Challenges:

You name it. I ate too much, drank too much dr pepper, didn't exercise...I really blew it this week.

Plans for next week:
Next week is going to be really busy. The kids are on spring break and I'm taking a week off from my blog to spend the time with them. I'll be back the following week though, ready to do lots better than I did this one.

Weigh-in:

Exactly the same, no more or no less. It's a miracle. I should have gained. Glad I didn't though!!

Weigh In Wednesday #3

Weigh In Wednesday with Kate and Joy from Happy To Be At Home

I got so busy yesterday that I didn't get it posted. But here it is on Thursday instead.

Food:
Doing ok. Nothing extra great, but I haven't had any big cheats.

Water:
Still drinking lots of water.

Exercise:

Still haven't started the exercise and I guess it showed this week at the weigh in :(

Successes:

I've figured out that if I chew gum I'm not tempted to snack when the kids are eating something.

Challenges:

Dr Pepper...of course

Plans for next week:
Try counting calories. I signed up at Calorie Count and have been logging my calories today. We'll see if maybe I'm eating more than I think I am when I actually start counting everything I put in my mouth.

Weigh-in:

So much for losing two pounds last week, I gained them back this week plus one!

Weigh In Wednesday

What is up with Blogger??

Oh well, at least this time it's letting me post SOMETHING.

It's time again for Weigh In Wednesday with Kate and Joy from Happy To Be At Home and I'm excited because (drumroll please)

I lost two pounds! Here's how my week went. It sure wasn't perfect, but it was good enough for a loss at least!

Food:
Doing fair. I'm working more on portion control and eliminating carbs later in the day. I've also figured out that it doesn't have to be perfect. In previous diets, I have blown a day and said to myself, "well, since I've already blown it...where are the cheetos? I'll go again tomorrow." This time if I slip, I don't add to the hole I've dug, I just dig myself back out the rest of the day, or the next day!

Water:
Still doing ok on the water. I'm still not able to let go of the Dr. Pepper, however.

Exercise:

Still haven't started exercising! Abby (my three yr old) was sick this week and I wasn't up to par either, and so I didn't get out to do any exercise.

Successes:

I've won a few small battles with the craving monster. And although I haven't started exercising yet, I'm still losing!

Challenges:

Dr Pepper.

Plans for next week:
Try to incorporate some exercise. Keep on with water and portion control. LOTS of veggies and salads.

Weigh-in:

two pound loss

Weigh In Wednesday

I almost forgot that today is the day I post how well I did on my weight loss goals. Ha!

But for the sake of accountability, I'll go ahead and make the post anyway:

Food:
Not so good. Valentine's Day is just not the right week to start a diet. But then, I guess any week is bad when you like to eat! So next week I definately need to improve in this area.

Water:
I did really well with the water. I'm filling up a gallon jug at night and let it get icy cold in the fridge overnight and drinking it all day long. I'm drinking LOTS of water!

Exercise:
Ha!

Enough said. I will try to actually get some exercise in next week.

Successes:
The water. I'm doing really well with water.

Challenges:
I really craved sweets this week (which usually isn't my problem...it's usually starches I go for). I had a hard time staying away from the Dr. Pepper and kept sneaking it in throughout the week. I need to watch that more.

Plans for next week:
Concentrate on more veggies and salads
Stay away from the sweets!
Stay away from the Dr. Pepper.
Try to exercise (shouldn't be a problem if we get good weather...I've got the gardening bug and that can be a workout!)

Weigh-in:
I gained 1 pound this week.

**This post is part of Happy To Be At Home's Weigh-In Wednesday. Even though I can't get Mr. Linky to work over there! haha

Weigh In Wednesday

Some of the blogs I read are participating in something called a Weigh in Wednesday over at Happy to Be at Home. Every Wednesday, people in Bloggy land that choose to participate in this carnival discuss any weight loss they have accrued and how they have done for the week in a number of areas.

I've decided to start this today and will report back next week. I will share everything except for the NUMBERS of my weigh in. I've noticed in this carnival that some do that and some don't so it appears to be optional. I choose opting out!

Posting goals publicly on my blog really reinforces my accountability. I seem to follow through better and feel a bigger sense of accomplishment when I fill out that "ta-da entry" that states my follow through. So hopefully this will be the case with this challenge as well. We'll see how I do each week and I will post back here next Wednesday to be accountable for any missteps or to cheer for victories! Wish me luck.

Food
Next week I will discuss how I handled food choices. Some people are doing low carb, others are counting calories. I think to start I will choose to eat only what will go on a child-sized plate and choose predominately salads and vegetables.

Water
I need to increase my water intake.

Exercise
I hate exercise. I'm going to shoot for exercise of some kind three times a week and then try to build from there.

Challenges
I'll let you know! Consistency I know will be my main challenge, so I'm hoping this accountability will help with that.

Successes
If only!

Plans for Next Week
Cut out all Dr Pepper (even diet), switch to water and I will allow myself tea if I need to fill a craving. That's a better choice than Dr Pepper.

Weigh In
Ok, I have my number...but I'm not telling you! haha
